What is the service call, and is it on top of the price?
The service call is $85. It covers coming to you - anywhere in San Luis Obispo County, any hour of the day. Every number in the table above already includes it, so there is no separate line to be surprised by. Where a job is quick once we are there, the table shows you the arithmetic: the service call plus the work.
Is the starting price what I will actually pay?
It is the floor - the simplest version of that job, in the easiest conditions. Plenty of calls are exactly that. What pushes a job above it is in the last column of the table, and we tell you which side of it you are on when you call, before anyone is dispatched.
I need several locks rekeyed - do I pay the service call each time?
No. The $85 service call is charged once for the visit, and the per-cylinder price applies to each lock after that. Five cylinders in one trip is the service call plus five times the per-cylinder rate, not five separate call-outs. It is why doing every lock in one visit costs less than doing them one at a time.
Why do you publish prices when most locksmiths do not?
Because the ones that do not are often not locksmiths. A call center quotes a low number over the phone and the technician raises it in your driveway; that gap is the business model. A published floor and a firm phone quote are both harder to do that with.
Do you charge more at night, on weekends, or on holidays?
Time of day affects some jobs, and we tell you that on the phone before you commit. What we do not do is quote a daytime price and discover an after-hours surcharge once we have arrived.
How does your car key pricing compare to the dealership?
For most vehicles we program keys for well below dealership cost, and you skip the tow and the wait for an appointment. The exact difference depends on the vehicle, so ask when you call.
